Cellar Cafe sits just off Manor Street in Braintree, offering a straightforward spot for those after a solid breakfast or a classic fry-up. Its interior leans into that traditional "greasy spoon" vibe, with a no-frills setup that feels familiar to anyone who appreciates a cafe that puts the food first.

This is a place where locals might drop by early on a weekend or mid-morning after handling errands nearby — especially since it’s conveniently close to local car service shops. On warm days, the contrast between the outside heat and the cool, slightly old-school atmosphere inside makes for a welcome break.

The kitchen serves up well-sized, properly cooked breakfasts with sensible portions and quality ingredients. Omelettes and full breakfasts are the go-to orders here, made to order and served hot enough to satisfy those craving a hearty start. Tea is also a simple but reliable staple on the menu, fitting the no-nonsense style that the cafe represents.

Staff are approachable and attentive, contributing to a welcoming environment without much fuss. However, timing between courses can be uneven—some visitors might notice waits between dishes, which can affect the overall flow of a meal. Still, for anyone prioritizing taste and straightforward fare over speed, Cellar Cafe delivers well.

Whether you’re local workers grabbing breakfast before a day on the site, or visitors passing through the market town, this cafe’s practical, clean setting and focus on comfort food make it a dependable stop. The best time to visit is probably mid-morning or early afternoon, when you can enjoy the hearty food without a rush, soaking in the informal cafe rhythm that’s very much part of Braintree’s everyday backdrop.

One of the best fry ups I've ever eaten, sensible size, quality ingredients and really piping hot. I wish I was here more often I'd visit at least weekly. Also spotlessly clean with friendly staff.

Stopped by as my car was having a recall and re-gas of A/C around the corner. Despite the 37 degrees weather outside (hottest day of the year) we had a couple of fry ups. The food was cooked perfectly and the lady (the boss) who served us was friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended.

This a great cafe with plenty of choice on the menu. The omelette was so good. There is plenty of seating. There are news papers to read and a radio to listen to. I think it maybe cash only. Clean toilets located at the rear. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I'd definitely recommend this cafe.

If there’s a better breakfast I don’t know where. Fantastic food, well presented and great value for money
